Strengthening Oklahoma Through Service

Oklahomans are struggling with LITERACY, POVERTY and FOOD INSECURITY. Together, we can improve the quality of life in our state.

We provide Oklahomans with access to education, food and employment opportunities to create thriving, local communities.

Become part of something bigger. We’ll train and connect you with big causes that need your help.

We provide the training. Our volunteers provide the passion. You provide the support. Together, we make an impact.

Every Year Oklahoma AmeriCorps Members

We Train.

We Connect.

We Impact.

We train motivated people and connect them with schools and nonprofits throughout the state. Our members receive training, real-world experience and an educational award. Oklahoma nonprofits receive committed and capable volunteers to help them expand their missions. Our communities receive the help they need to tackle the most pressing problems in their backyard. When we all work together, we all make an impact.

Members Making A Difference

In 2008, two AmeriCorps members launched the Community After School Program’s “Be Smart Club,” an after-school tutoring and homework help program in Norman for at-risk youth reading below grade level. Through this program, members provide one-on-one reading and tutoring interventions with 4,500 students, resulting in significant academic improvement.

AmeriCorps members partnered with Owasso Community Resources to add a job placement program. Members review resumes, provide mock interviews, connect job seekers with potential employers and host a bi-annual job fair. Since the partnership started, members have directly impacted the lives of more than 3,000 Oklahomans by helping them gain employment, confidence and financial stability.

An AmeriCorps member at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma started a nutrition education program in food pantries to help clients create healthy meals from the items available at the pantry. Through this program, the Food Bank provides nutrition education, cooking demonstrations, healthy recipes and pantry boxes tailored for clients with diabetes or heart healthy diets. More than 27,000 people are served annually through AmeriCorps sponsored food pantry programs.
