Oklahoma Serves

The Oklahoma Serves program places AmeriCorps members statewide at non-profit organizations, public agencies, colleges and universities, schools, and other community-based organizations dedicated to providing services to children and youth. Member service activities include mentoring, tutoring, implementing educational enrichment and health programs, and supporting food banks.

Since its inception in 2004, 526 OK Serves AmeriCorps members have impacted the lives of over 281,000 Oklahoma youth. Additionally, members have served 336,861 hours and have recruited and served alongside 43,038 volunteers through agencies and schools that partner with OK Serves. AmeriCorps members may serve a term of service during a 10-12 month period. After successful completion of their service, members who are enrolled on or after September 1, 2010 will receive the following education award amounts for their respective term of service:

Full-time 1,700 hrs. $5,550

Half-time 900 hrs. $2,775

Quarter-time 450 hrs. $1,468

Minimum-time 300 hrs. $1,175

Education awards may be used to pay off qualified student loans or may be used at any Title IV school. Members have seven years to use their education award.

The Oklahoma Community Service Commission is a non-profit state commission whose primary purposes are to integrate, expand and sustain volunteer service initiatives across the state of Oklahoma as well as fund and administer AmeriCorps programs in Oklahoma.
