Little Dixie Community Action Agency

School Readiness Program

Thirty two AmeriCorps Members serve in the 32 Little Dixie Head Start or Early Head Start centers that are located across the rural counties of Choctaw, McCurtain & Pushmataha. Under the direction of the classroom teachers the members serve as Individual Development Plan (IDP) coaches to the children. IDP’s are in place for each child enrolled within the Head Start/ Early Head Start programs that helps insure each child is receiving the ‘individualized’ education that will better prepare them for Kindergarten, in turn better preparing the child for their future.

AmeriCorps members may serve a term of service during a 10-12 month period. After successful completion of their service, members who are enrolled on or after September 1, 2010 will receive the following education award amounts for their respective term of service:

Full-time 1,700 hrs. $5,550

Half-time 900 hrs. $2,775

Quarter-time 450 hrs. $1,468

Minimum-time 300 hrs. $1,175

Education awards may be used to pay off qualified student loans or may be used at any Title IV school. Members have seven years to use their education award.
