AmeriCorps members will be placed in the classrooms to serve students that are performing below grade level.  Activities will occur in a one-on-one or small group setting before, during and after school.  Members will also develop summer enrichment programs with an academic component in these rural areas where they currently are nonexistent.  There will be 16 school districts in the four county area of Pawnee, Payne, Osage, Creek and Tulsa serving as host sites for AmeriCorps members.

AmeriCorps members may serve a term of service during a 10-12 month period.  After successful completion of their service, members who are enrolled on or after September 1, 2010 will receive the following education award amounts for their respective term of service:

 

Full-time 1,700 hrs.         $5,350

Half-time   900 hrs.          $2,675

Quarter-time 450 hrs.       $1,415

Minimum-time 300 hrs.    $1,132

 

Education awards may be used to pay off qualified student loans or may be used at any Title IV school.  Members have seven years to use their education award.
