 “Together We Prepare”

Utilizing 20 AmeriCorps members placed at sites with documented critical needs and low volunteer base support, the American Red Cross will recruit adults, youth and senior citizens from underserved communities to participate on disaster action teams (DAT), the state's disaster services human resources system (DSHR) and participate in major disaster services educational programs.

Underserved communities are defined as counties in the state with no chapter office. Forty-eight counties do not have chapter offices and are considered underserved communities.

Through comprehensive training programs, members will educate the community on the prevention, preparation, and response to environmental emergencies. Volunteer recruitment programs will be developed as well as providing education on major disaster services programs to be delivered to all age groups.

The 20 full-time AmeriCorps positions are located in Ardmore, Duncan, El Reno, Elk City, Lawton, McAlester, Miami, Norman, Oklahoma City, Shawnee, Stillwater, Tulsa and Woodward.
